Literature Text

I see new things every day
That could make my heart sway
I can hear the birds singing
Like it's everything
And in the moment, I wrote you a song
Life is good, life is precious
And the food tastes delicious
Oh how can you refuse him
When he wants to dance with you?
Take one step in fresh water
What do you know? He's got her
And they laugh and they run
With their toes floating on dew

You know that when I smile
On a gray day
It's because I think the sun came out
When you come my way
At the top of the hills, I listen for the sound
Of you calling my name, ringing like a bell
And here, all the notes align

I'll stay with you
In the time it takes to count the stars
I'll hold you close
Through each and every one of these bars
And in the moment, I wrote you a song
You are good, you are precious
And your voice sounds delicious
Oh how can I refuse you
When you want to dance with me?
Take one step in mid air
You'll see heaven's just right there
Where we laugh and we run
And we can run free

Oh, singing, I am singing
It's all yours, I'm all yours
Swing, yes swing with me
Forevermore, forevermore

At the top of the hills I listen for the sound
Of you calling my name, ringing like a bell
And in the moment, I wrote you a song
And there all the notes aligned
It feels like that :D

I like the way you defy the rhythm in here, setting it up just enough that we have expectations about the way the rhythm will continue, yet it never seems to match up, which constantly draws out the odd numbered lines, giving them emphasis. Coupled with the heavy use of slant rhyme and non-rhyming pairs, it makes a brilliant stylistic play, particularly in a poem that dwells so heavily on the theme of alignment.
